How to Reach

By Air
The nearest airport Bhunter is 40 kms away. Bhuntar runway is being extended to accommodate larger 80 seater aircraft. Chandigarh 300 km away is better connected and it takes a seven hour taxi ride to get to.

By Bus
There are regular buses (Volvo’s) from Delhi and Chandigarh. It takes about 12 hours from Delhi. Buses leave around 5 to 7 pm in the evening and reach Manali early next morning. It takes about 8 to 9 hours from Chandigarh by bus.

By Road
Provided you leave Delhi by 5 am you will be in Manali well before 6 pm. The route takes you via Karnal (There are a couple good places after the Karnal bypass to get in a late breakfast) via Ambala to Chandigarh. One can make a stopover in Chandigarh for the day or carry on via Ropar (Rupnagar) and just before Kiratpur turn right over the flyover towards Swarghat and Bilaspur. The Kiratpur-Swarghat- Bilaspur stretch is infested with trucks and it makes sense to keep your wits about you. After Bilaspur and the Ghaggas cement plant trucks thin out and one can enjoy the drive. It passes through Sundernagar and Mandi and then onto the climb to Pandoh and Hanogi. It then descends via the tunnel into Aut. Take the bypass after Bhuntar towards Manali. After 25 kms you will pass through a small town of Patlikuhl and then after another 4 kms you reach 15 mile bridge. Tall trees is just across the bridge.

Alternate Route (Minus the trucks and the smoke)
Follow the same route from Delhi to Ropar. After Ropar drive straight through Kiratpur via Anandpur Sahib and Nangal onto Una. From Una take the right turn towards Bangana and Barsar. This is a new road and traffic is sparse. The downside is that there is no place to halt or eat. From Barsar the road goes past Salooni, Bhota and Jahu. Past Jahu the road is still being constructed in places but very much drivable. It then narrows past the town of Khalkhal and descend on to Ner Chowk where it joins the NH-21. This route although a bit longer (about half an hour) is still a far better alternative to the Kiratpur-Swarghat-Bilaspur stretch. From the Ner Chowk follow the NH-21 past Mandi, Kullu and then to the 15 mile bridge.
